About Artist Dewa Ketut Rungun
He was born in Padang Tegal, Ubud. At first, he learned painting by himself. But later after Pita Maha was founded, he joined in. He then received his art lesson from Walter Spies and Rudolf Bonnet. He later joined Golongan Pelukis Ubud that was established in 1956 by Bonnet. From this mentor, he was introduced to the idea of an artist personal style illustrates the painter's objects, forms and characters. He later found his own signature theme, the lives of butterflies amongst the tree, wold bird in the jungle and herons in the paddy field. Though, he would paint wayang in several rare occasions. He displayed his works in Surabaya, 1950. And later in 1953, he painted the mural of Menteng Theatre in Jakarta. His works are collected by various institutions, including Museum Puri Lukisan (Ubud), Neka Museum (Ubud), BAli Museum (Ubud), Taman Budaya (Denpasar), Presidential PAlace's Museum (Jakarta) and Rijkmuseum voor Volkenkunde (Leiden). One of his works was printed in a Bali cultural book, Bali Atlas Kebudayaan, written by Dr. R. Goris.
