The Batuan style painter was born in Banjar Tengah, Batuan on December 31, 1960. He inherited his artistic talent from his father, the recognized painter, I Dewa Wayan Kandel. Aside from his father, several senior painters also guided him including I Made Tubuh in 1974. In various pieces of his work, he illustrates the Balinese mythology.

One particular scene that he often depicts quite well in several of his exhibitions is the story of Menara Giri Mountain's rotation. He has displayed his works in numerous exhibitions, including an exhibition in Taman Budaya-Denpasar (1978) and several exhibition in Jakarta.
