Born in Peliatan, Ubud, in 1936. when he was 20 years old, he joined Golongan Pelukis Ubud led by Rudolf Bonnet. But he also learned painting from senior painters in his banjar. He was a mentor /painter with several successful students, among them was I Nyoman Kayun. The subject of hid paintings mainly derived from mythology and folk tales. One of the paintings illustrating Rajapala was collected by Arma Museum (Ubud).
