This painter was born in Banjar Tengah, Peliatan-Ubud in 1954. but several publications also referred the year 1948 as his birth year. The difference from both years is quite extensive but it did not matter for Kayun. He, at first, learned carving from I Wayan Alip in 1962. A year later, he learned painting from I Gusti Made Kwanji. Tutorial lesson on art once received from Rudolf Bonnet, especially on colour and composition. He once participated in group exhibitions in Balai desa Peliatan, Lembaga Indonesia-Amerika in Surabaya, Museum Puri Lukisan (Ubud), Bali Museum (Denpasar), and Bentara Budaya Jakarta.
