About Artist I Wayan Barwa

Born in Peliatan, Ubud, in 1933 and died in 2004. He was the member of Golongan Pelukis Ubud 1956 (Group of Ubud Painters) established and led by Rudolf Bonnet. Aside from being an artist, the Balinese art scene would remember him as a galler owner. During his lifetime, he promoted numerous Balinese traditional painters including I Gusti Ketut Kobot, who later became a prominent painter. In 1963, he opened a studio for young and talented artist (aroud 20 painters). His works are collected by Museum Puri Lukisan (Ubud), Taman Budaya (Denpasar) and Museum Adam Malik (Jakarta).

Barwa's works also illustrate the ordinary life in Bali and romantic mythology such as Jayaprana. His works has been displayed in Bali, Jakarta and Surabaya; while in overseas, his works once exhibited in New Zealand and Japan.
