About Artist I Wayan Turun

Born in Tebesaya, Peliatan-Ubud, 1935 and died in 1986. His artistic talent was inherited from his father, I Wayan Dugsug, whom was famous as a carver, He had accompained his father setting the carvings on the building construction. Though these experiences, his artistic drive grown. He later studied for three years in Peliatan Art School led by I Gusti Ketut Kobot in 1948. He also learned from Dewa Ketut Ding and Ida BAgus Wiri. In 1954 he learned the art from Rudolf Bonnet in Campuhan and joined the Golongan Pelukis Ubud. Here he recognized colour for his painting. In 1947, he received an art award for children art compertition for National Commemoration Historical Museum.

Turun work had been exhibited in various part of the world supported by Rudolf Bonnet. Later his paintings have been collected by several important museums Europe such as Rijkmuseum voor Volkenkunde (Ledien) and Art Museum in Los Angeles (US). He had participated in several exhibitions in Museum Puri Lukisan (Ubud), Bali Art Festival (Denpasar). In 1988 he received Wija Kusuma award from Gianyar government while in 1991 he rewarded with Dharma Kusuma award from the Bali government. In Bali, his works is collected in Neka Museum (Ubud).
