About Artist Ketut Tungeh
At one period, Presiden Sukarno once stated that he would prefer the simple Balinese pasintings. Therfore when he looked at Tungeh's watercolour-on-canvas work Persiapan Upacara Galungan (60x40 cm), he immedietly got interested. Tungeh's work is not featuring many details. The simple work then illustrated the pages of Lukisan-lukisan dan Patung-patung Koleksi Presiden Sukarno, Jilid IV published in 1964. Generally, Tungeh's works still bears meticolous details. He is one of the figures in Ubud art scene. Born in Ubud, 1915, he joined Pita Maha association in 1936. Religious live is often depicted as the objects of his paintings. But Tungeh himself would prefer paintings that illustrate the animal life. His works are part of the collection of museum and international art collectors after had been displayed in various exhibition starting 1940.
