About Artist Tjokorda Oka Gambir
Born in Peliatan-Ubud in 1902 and died in 1975. He was awarded Wija Kusuma Medal by Gianyar provencial government in 1994. Long before, he once won the painting competition in Gianyar during the Dutch Colonial erawith cash money as the reward. His style is Ubud traditional style with wayang as the objects. Aside of painting, he also drew interior designs of tempels or banjar gathering halls. His other activities done by him were colouring masks and barong and also several sacred instrument. He was a skilled woodcarver for house decorations, stone carver and barong decoration. Therefore, he was not merely a painter but also an artist. At first, he learned painting from his surroundings. In mid 1930s, he learned the art from Rudolf Bonnet by joining Pita Maha in Ubud. He had several pupils, including I Gusti Ketut Kobot, I Wayan Barwa, I Wayan Durus. All of them become prominent painters.
