About Artist Pieter Dittmar
The spare and abstract paintings that German artist PETER DITTMAR has produced over the last decade - calligraphic lines of black and burnt siena through fields of almost solid colour - are as unchanging as icons. WithZEN-like simplicity, his compositions rely on harmony and context to convey an aesthetic, while textures provide the surprise. His work is as contradictory as Bali, his adopted home: at once static and spirited, meditative yet exciting or reflective but mutable.
Today Dittmar lives and works in three continents, Asia, Europe and Australia. His work reflects this cultural symbiosis of a Western trained artist reinterpreting Eastern aesthetic principles of "WABI SABI". Like the German artist WALTER SPIES(in Bali from 1927-1941) Dittmar's ARTWORKS are also influenced by the Eastern philosopies and a spiritual attitude towards his work. Working as a free lance artist since 20 years his focus has been on painting. In 1996 he started working with INSTALATIONS as another form of artistic expression.
From year 1999 he started with the wallworks-concept "ART LINKS PEOPLE". In this concept, segmented paintings in the format of strips are combined and recombined to create one continuous artwork, linking people around the world. In year 2000 Dittmar started to work in his paintings on the idea of "AIDA" a Japanese term meaning "gap or space in between".
