The ‘Songs of Ubud’ Exhibition will be staged at the Agung Rai Museum of Art (ARMA) presenting a carefully curated collection of over 60 outstanding works by 30 living masters and some exceptional pieces by the old masters, which highlights the development, depth and originality of traditional paintings in Bali from Kamasan to Ubud style.
Among the participating artists are Made Budi, Ketut Kasta, Nyoman Lesug, Wayan Matra and A.A. Anom Sukawati. Guest of Honor at the opening will be Governor of Bali’s Gianyar, Province, Ir. Tjokorda Oka Artha Ardhana Sukawati, MSi.
Mr. Hans Jenni, Director and President of GHM, said: “GHM is proud to support Bali’s unique artist tradition, reflecting the distinctive culture of one of the world’s most exotic destinations.”
The exhibition is being organized by Asian Art Consultancy One East Asia and Larasati Auctioneers, which has been on the forefront of promoting Balinese art.
Ms. Veronica Howe, Chief Consultant of One East Asia, added: “Looking at art, be it traditional, modern of contemporary, is like visiting an uncharted territory. Often very puzzling and confusing. Also with a bit of effort, all of us can enjoy and appreciate it at a certain level, Balinese traditional art in particular.”
The exhibition is curated by Garret Kam, an American who has lived in Bali fo almost 25 years and has written and lectured extensively about the island’s culture and its connections with other parts of Asia. Garret is the author of the books Perceptions of Paradise: Images of Bali in the Arts, The Development of Painting in Bali and Ramayana in the Arts of Asia.
GHM has close ties to Bali with three resorts on the ‘paradise island’: The Legian, The Club at The Legian and The Chedi Club in Ubud.
